PLAYING THE FIELD: A NEW APPROACH TO THE MEANING OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Today, there is much talk about how the ‘field’ of social entrepreneurship continues to develop apace both as a focus of innovative praxis and groundbreaking research. Indeed, the emergence of the Social Enterprise Journal itself testifies to this dynamic landscape. However, real questions remain about what we mean by ‘creating a field’ of action and scholarship that is distinct to social entrepreneurship and, moreover, how such attention to field building helps – or otherwise – address the pressing social needs of our time.
