The Roots of Marginalization:Mary Gordon’s Antidote By Bill Drayton, Chair and CEO of Ashoka Innovators for the Public

What causes individuals and groups to be marginalized? It is not that they have not mastered Latin, lathes, or digital science. These can be learned, and learned pretty much at any age. There are many contributing factors to marginalization, but the heart of the matter is that these people and groups have not mastered the social skills that are essential for them to play, for them to interact effectively with others. The skills that are needed now are far more complex than those that sufficed a mere hundred years ago -- but no one told these people or changed the educational system to compensate.
